A Report of Central Anticholinergic Syndrome Resulting from Overdose of Atropine

Abstract
The 54-year old male patient was admitted to have an operation. The patient had accidently taken 8ml of eyedrops of 1% atropine980%).
Approximately an hour later, the patient has had several symptoms and signs; flushed face, dizziness, dried mouth, paralized tongue, tachycardia(140 rate/min) and hypertension(160/120 mmHg). His condition was getting worse; he was confused and
hallucinated.
The patient was injected with one litter of L/R solution and supplied with oxygen.
In spite of the treatment, there was no improvement in his condition. Owing to inavailability of physostigmine, the patient was injected with 10 mg of pyridostigmine and 7 mg of valium
Cosequently, blood pressure went down to 150/110 mmHg and heart rate also went down to 100-110 rate/min. However, he was irritated occasionally and unconscious. For the sedation, the patient was injected again 5 mg of valim.
Approximately 12 hours later, the patient was stabilized in vital sign and 24hours later, the patient could communicate. 36 hours later, he was getting concious. The patient was gradually getting stabilized. Three davs later, he had an operation
for
retinal detachment under local anesthesia. After operation the patient had no particular problems and was discharged.
